Dr. Rostam Farahi

Dr. Rostam Farahi

Current Director (Since 2022)

Dr. Rostam Farahi brings over 20 years of expertise in language education and administration to the Language Academy. With a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Tehran and extensive international experience, Dr. Farahi has implemented innovative teaching methodologies and expanded our course offerings.

Under his leadership, the Academy has established new partnerships with international language institutes and universities, providing students with enhanced learning opportunities and exchange programs.

Dr. Farahi's vision is to position the Language Academy of Yazd University as a leading center for language education in the Middle East while maintaining our commitment to cultural understanding and academic excellence.

Dr. Mehraban Hamavandy

Dr. Mehraban Hamavandy

Former Director (2005-2022)

Dr. Mehraban Hamavandy was the founding director of the Language Academy of Yazd University. With a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge, Dr. Hamavandy established the Academy with a vision of providing world-class language education to students in Yazd.

During his 17-year tenure, Dr. Hamavandy developed the comprehensive curriculum that serves as the foundation of our programs today. His dedication to quality education and cultural exchange shaped the Academy's reputation for excellence.

Under his guidance, the Academy grew from a small department offering English courses to a comprehensive language institute teaching multiple languages at all proficiency levels. His legacy continues to inspire our commitment to educational innovation and cultural understanding.

Our Historical Timeline

Foundation

2005

The Language Academy of Yazd University was established under the leadership of Dr. Mehraban Hamavandy, offering basic English language courses to university students.

Expansion of Course Offerings

2008

Added French and German language programs to meet growing demand for European language instruction. The Academy recruited native speakers as instructors to ensure authentic language learning.

New Facility

2012

Moved to our current purpose-built facility on the Yazd University campus, featuring modern classrooms, a language lab, and a multimedia library.

International Certification

2015

Became an official examination center for international language certifications including TOEFL, IELTS, TestDaF, and DELF, allowing students to obtain globally recognized qualifications.

Introduction of Arabic and Spanish

2018

Further expanded our language offerings to include Arabic and Spanish courses, bringing our total to six languages taught at various proficiency levels.

Leadership Transition

2022

Dr. Rostam Farahi appointed as the new director following Dr. Hamavandy's retirement, bringing new vision and international connections to the Academy.

Digital Transformation

2023

Implemented state-of-the-art language learning technology and hybrid learning options, combining traditional classroom instruction with online resources and virtual exchange programs.

International Partnerships

2024

Established formal partnerships with language institutes in France, Germany, and the UK, creating exchange opportunities for both students and faculty.
